James Patrick Tressel (born December 5, 1952) is a former football coach of Ohio State University. He was hired before the 2001 season to replace John Cooper. Since he became the 22nd Ohio State head football coach, Tressel has teams played in three BCS National Championship Game. His 2002 team won a national title and completed the first 14-0 season record in major college football since Penn was 15-0 in 1897. Tressel had a record of 106-22 at Ohio State, including seven Big Ten Conference championships, a 6-4 bowl record, a mark of 5-3 in BCS bowl games and a 9-1 record against his rival Michigan Wolverines. Tressel nine wins against Michigan in second place in school history to Woody Hayes, who finished 16th and is the only head coach of Ohio State to win seven consecutive games against the Wolverines. On October 9, 2010, Tressel won his 100th game at Ohio State with a victory over Indiana.

Before coming to Ohio State, Tressel has coached football at the head of Youngstown State University for 15 seasons (1986-2000), where his team won four NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship.
