Back in the day, Selection Sunday was one of my favorite days of the year.
Usually at this time, I would have covered the SEC Tournament and then after the completion of the finals on Sunday afternoon and starting to write the Selection Show would come on and I would learn where I would be headed in the next few days.
And way back in the day, more than one Louisiana school would make the tournament and those schools would get lumped together sometimes. That explains how I covered both LSU and then-Northeast Louisiana University in the NCAA Tournament in Minneapolis.
But times change. I won't be in the press room on Sunday after the SEC title game. And the selection committee won't have to concern itself with putting Louisiana teams together at the same site.
I miss state schools being involved in Selection Sunday . It's not the same when all you see is other schools from other states. I realize the decline in Louisiana basketball goes hand in hand with the ascension of football. I just hate to see the rise of one coming at the expense of another.
